Your day will begin early in the morning at 5:00 am as you set out from Kigali to embark on the journey to Akagera National Park. As you travel, you’ll be awestruck by the breathtaking natural scenery and the diverse landscapes that contribute to Rwanda’s reputation as one of the most stunning countries in the world.
Founded in 1934, Akagera National Park is Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last remaining refuge for savannah-adapted species in Rwanda and home to the Big-Five game (lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos). It is named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary and feeds into a labyrinth of lakes of which the largest is Lake Ihema.
As you make your way through the park, you’ll encounter a variety of incredible wildlife, including majestic elephants, zebras, impalas, Topis, warthogs, waterbucks, hyenas, bushbucks, roan antelopes, cape eland, lions, hippos, Nile crocodiles and more. Keep your eyes peeled for rare species and other wildlife that call thus remarkable park home.
